2024 National Day of Mourning

Posted on April 26, 2024 9:17 am

As we approach the National Day of Mourning, we pause to honor the memory of the workers who have tragically lost their lives or have been injured on the job. It is a day that reminds us of the critical importance of workplace safety and the ongoing need for vigilance in every task we undertake.

Here at IBEW Local 993, we are committed to not only remembering those we have lost but also to actively working towards a future where such losses are unheard of. Safety is not just a priority but a core value that we instill in every member of our community.

This day of remembrance strengthens our resolve to fight for safer working conditions and to ensure that every worker receives the training and support needed to protect themselves and their coworkers. We stand in solidarity with families, friends, and colleagues who have been affected by workplace tragedies.

Let us use this day to reaffirm our commitment to safety in the workplace. We owe it to those we remember on this day, and to every worker, to create environments where everyone can return home safely at the end of the day.

I encourage everyone to attend a National Day of Mourning Ceremony close to you, and if you're unable to attend, please observe a moment of silence on that day.

There is a list of ceremonies for locations in BC listed here: https://dayofmourning.bc.ca/

Some of the dates are on the 26th, so please check the location nearest you.
