The National Day of Mourning, is a solemn occasion dedicated to remembering and honoring workers who have lost their lives, suffered injuries, or endured illnesses due to their work. Held on April 28th, this day brings together families, workers, and government officials in a shared expression of grief and commitment to improving workplace safety. Participants lay wreaths, observe moments of silence, and listen to speeches that not only remember the fallen but also call for stringent safety measures to prevent future tragedies.

This day serves as a crucial reminder of the ongoing efforts needed to safeguard workers across all industries. It highlights the collaboration between unions, safety organizations, and governmental bodies striving to enact and enforce regulations that protect workers' health and safety. The National Day of Mourning not only mourns the loss but also inspires a collective move towards a safer working environment for all Canadians.

This year IBEW 993 Business Manager, Jim Bicknell, attended the ceremony in Ottawa Ontario.
