Posted on November 1, 2024 8:51 am
Today, we proudly celebrate the 77th anniversary of IBEW Local 993! Since our founding on November 1, 1947, Local 993 has been committed to supporting and empowering electricians and electrical workers across Northern British Columbia. This milestone reminds us of the dedication, hard work, and sense of unity that has brought us this far. Over the years, Local 993 has grown to become a strong, respected voice for skilled workers in our region.
Jim Bicknell, Business Manager & Financial Secretary of IBEW 993, reflects on our journey: “Reaching this 77-year mark is a true testament to the strength of our membership. Each one of you—past and present—has helped build Local 993 into what it is today. Together, we’ve made progress on wages, safety standards, and training opportunities, making our local a place where members can thrive both professionally and personally.”
Looking Back
Today, we remember our founders and early members who laid the groundwork for Local 993, facing challenges with resilience and building a union that cares deeply for its members and their families. Through boom times and lean times, IBEW Local 993 has remained steadfast in its mission to protect and improve the livelihoods of our members.
Our Founding Members
Take a moment to think about the eleven electricians that saw a better way forward and made the effort and sacrifice required. These eleven men built an organization that would last for generations and allow IBEW 993 electricians to build better lives for themselves and their families.
