IBEW 993 was proud to be part of the Indigenous job fair for Teck with Chandra and Brian attended on behalf of our local, sharing information about careers in the electrical trade and answering questions from prospective workers.
The event was held over Saturday Nov 22 and Sunday Nov 23 at NVIT in Merritt, BC. Construction on the expansion at Highland Valley Copper started in early September and is expected to create 2900 jobs during the construction. Work is expected to run until 2028.
Taking part in events like this is an important part of IBEW 993’s ongoing work to support equity and inclusion in our membership. We want to make sure that Indigenous workers and communities have clear pathways into good union jobs, fair wages, and safe working conditions.
IBEW 993 is committed to building lifelong careers for our members, not just temporary jobs. We back our members with strong wages, solid benefits, and support throughout their working lives.
We thank NVIT, Teck, and all the participants for welcoming us and for the strong interest in joining IBEW 993.
