IBEW 993 Building Connections at Minerals North 2026
IBEW 993 ABM Oliver Dyck, Training Coordinator Chris Sherman, and Organizer James Olson are attending the 2026 Minerals North Conference in Smithers from May 6 to May 8.
Minerals North is one of the major mining and resource development conferences in Northern BC. It brings together mining companies, contractors, suppliers, community leaders, Indigenous partners, government representatives, and others who are involved in the future of industrial development in the north.
For IBEW 993 and all of its members, being in the room matters.
Our jurisdiction covers a large part of Northern British Columbia, including many of the areas where mining, power, infrastructure, and industrial construction projects are being planned, discussed, and built. Attending conferences like Minerals North gives IBEW 993 representatives the chance to meet directly with the people making decisions about those projects.
These conversations are important. They help build relationships with industry leaders, create new connections with contractors and project owners, and make sure IBEW 993 is seen as a serious player in industrial construction across the north. Building strong industry connections is what IBEW and it’s membership need to grow. Those connections are built from the ground up and grow over time by showing up and being in the room.
IBEW 993 has the skilled electricians, apprentices, training systems, and experience needed to support major industrial work. But growing our reach does not happen by waiting for the phone to ring. It happens by showing up, introducing ourselves, asking questions, and making sure industry knows what our members can bring to the table.
For our three attending members, the conference was an opportunity to promote the value of IBEW 993 members and talk about how our Local can support future mining and resource projects. It was also a chance to hear directly from industry about what is coming, what challenges need to be solved, and where skilled labour will be needed.
As Northern BC continues to see growth in mining, energy, transmission, and infrastructure, IBEW 993 must continue to be part of those conversations. Conferences like Minerals North help us grow our presence, build trust, and make sure our members are considered when the work is planned.
IBEW 993 is committed to increasing its reach, building strong industry relationships, and helping make sure that major projects in the north are built with skilled, safe, and properly trained union electricians.
