Sisters and Brothers:

As we head into the holiday season, I think we can all agree that this past year has been unlike any other in our lifetimes. Most of our country is either currently in a lockdown situation or in many more areas headed in that direction due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Normally this time of year is a time to spend with family and friends or take that much deserved trip to the sun for well-deserved rest and relaxation. Sadly, this year will have to be different, we must adhere to public health recommendations, limit travel and physical contact outside of our personal bubbles, if we hope to defeat this deadly virus and put this year behind us.

Although the holiday season will be different it is important that we take some time for ourselves. This year has been very stressful for everyone and the stress coupled with isolation can cause serious mental health issues if not addressed. So please take care of yourself and your loved ones.

Even though 2020 has been difficult I could not be prouder of how the IBEW has stepped up and met the challenges. I want to thank all of you for your loyalty and membership in the IBEW. I also want to thank and recognize the Local union leadership who have worked on your behalf to keep the IBEW viable and who have fought to keep you safe while working essential jobs.

On behalf of the entire IBEW First District staff, I wish you all the best for a safe and enjoyable holiday season, and I look forward to your continued support and hard work in 2021.

In solidarity,
Tom Reid
International Vice President, First District (Canada)
