UNBC Professor Helping Kitimat Prepare for Smelter Expansion

A University of Northern British Columbia professor is helping Kitimat as it prepares for one of the largest industrial expansions in the history of northern BC.
Doctor Greg Halseth is advising the town on how to prepare for the short term population boom that will result from construction of Rio Tinto Alcan's smelter expansion.
He says the town needs to plan ahead. "One of the things we know is very difficult, is when local service providers need assistance, it can take a long time to get it from federal and provincial agencies that have that mandate."
